This training will provide an overview of sustainability reporting, focusing on the key concepts and principles involved. Participants will learn about double materiality, which addresses both the impact of business activities on the environment and society (impact materiality) and how sustainability issues affect a company's financial performance (financial materiality). The training will highlight how double materiality differs from traditional reporting methods.


Additionally, the course will cover the European Union's push for double materiality through regulations like the CSRD (Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive) and ESRS (European Sustainability Reporting Standards). It will also discuss the current state of sustainability reporting in the Middle East, exploring how the ESRS standards are influencing the region and offering practical insights on the key considerations for adopting these new standards.

  • Brief introduction to the topic and the key concepts in the sustainability reporting.
  • Definition and core principles of double materiality
  • Impact materiality, financial materiality

    Charles has a background of over 30 years advising companies on financial, sustainability and corporate reporting globally. Charles advises on regulatory requirements and the underlying policies and processes required to deliver robust, verifiable external reports.

    Experience:
    Prepares special purpose financial statements. Charles has extensive experience in preparing special purpose financial proforma and carve-out statements to support capital market and other transactions. This support includes preparation of technical papers, data models and workbooks and full IFRS compliant financial statements.

    Assists organizations in understanding the developing sustainability reporting regimes, in particular the developments in the International Sustainability Standards Board and European Sustainability Reporting Standards.

    Provides support to organizations in developing sustainability reporting strategies, considering the potential global regimes that can impact on them, and the limits of reporting boundaries. A key part of these activities is understanding and advising on the interoperability of global frameworks.
